From the perspective of a negative person, life will look bleak and dull. From the perspective of a positive person, life will come more easily. Everything is in accordance to how you perceive something.
Say you suffer a disease. You can either perceive that as something that will bring you down, or something that can heal you in a way. It is cathartic, because "The greatness of the reward is with the greatness of the trial. When Allah loves a people, he trials them. Whoever is content with this will have happiness and whoever is angry with this will have nothing but anger." –Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
So it can be seen that if someone looks at the dark side of life due to being struck by tribulation, he will receive darkness and if he looks at the light side of trials, he will receive light. That light is greater reward. That is why the believer always has a good attitude towards usually negative things. It’s almost, if not totally, counterintuitive.
“What an extraordinary thing the business of the believer is! All of it is good for him. And that only applies to the believer. If good fortune is his lot, he is grateful and it is good for him. If something harmful happens to him, he is steadfast and that is good for him too." –Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Here you can see again that the believer comes out steadfast and patient, being forbearing against all tribulations. He has a strong perspective; he looks at life through a bright set of lens.
But just because he takes life in a positive manner doesn’t mean he has to necessary like it. Through perspective, everything changes. Ideas, feeling, thoughts, and beliefs completely change. And for the believer, his perspective is much higher than the disbeliever. "The dunya (world) is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the kafir (disbeliever)." –Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Anything can be perceived differently. You just have to shift your inner vision. You can shift it to see the ugly in life, or see the beauty in life. You can shift it to see hope in your future, or see despair in your future. And most importantly, you can shift it to understand your purpose in life, or think that this life is the only that exists.
"For God says, I created man and jinn for no other purpose than to worship Me only.” (Qur’an 51:56)
That’s our true purpose. Once you have reached that state of understanding, you have a great perspective in life. You must realize the perspective of our purpose, which is to strive for good in the Hereafter.
During worship, higher perspectives can be reached as well. God consciousness is worshiping as if you are seeing Allah or that He is seeing you.
And the most important of perspectives is the perception of Allah Himself. If you perceive him as loving, merciful, and caring, He will be. And when you perceive Him as angry, He may very well be. So always try to perceive Him well and you will have reached the greatest perspective of life.
The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Allah the Most High said, ‘I am as My servant thinks (expects) I am. I am with him when he mentions Me. If he mentions Me to himself, I mention him to Myself; and if he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly greater than it. If he draws near to Me a hand’s length, I draw near to him an arm’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.’” –Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
