The next world is like a dawn. It always tends towards unending light. It tends towards infinity. This is what is known as the Akhira (Hereafter in Arabic).
“And He it is Who originates the creation, then He will repeat it; and this is easier for Him.” (Qu’ran 30:27)
The twilight that tends towards light is the path of the believers. The believers know where they are going, and are not afraid to believe it. They are confident, bold, and determined. Their faces radiate with pleasure. They follow the twilight in this world, a balance between dark and light, in order to return to the eternal light. They fear the punishment, and hope for the reward. That is the true twilight of balance.
There is a light of eternity in Heaven. That light is far too powerful to exist in this evanescent world. That is the light of luminescence. It is said to be without shadows. It obliterates our world, because of its sheer purity. And that is the light of Allah (God in Arabic).
“When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: ‘O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee.’ His Lord said: ‘By no means canst thou see Me ;
But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me.’ When his Lord manifested
His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: ‘Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe.’" (7:143)
As far as my knowledge, the “Glory” of Allah is said to be His Light, which obliterated the mountain. The mountain crumbled because it humbled itself before its Lord, and couldn’t take his magnificent Glory. That is said to be the light of heaven, which is without shadows.
In Heaven, there is no ill-speech or pain. You are in a constant state of enlightenment, euphoria, and nirvana.
“They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin. But only the saying of: 'Peace! Peace!'" (Quran 56:25-26)
That’s what they will hear! Just peace! They will be in constant and perpetual bliss, and be completely happy. As opposed to this world, they will experience eternal comfort.
This world doesn’t offer that. In this world, one must work hard in order to obtain an infinitesimal fraction of that comfort of Heaven.
That’s because this world is virtually worth nothing. Why would something be worth even looking at when it’s worth less than a wing of a fly?
“If this world was worth as much as a fly's wing to Allah, Allah would not have given the kaafirs (disbelievers) a drop of water to drink.” –Prophet Muhammad (SWS)
Not even a wing of a fly is as insignificant as the life of this evanescent world. We must realize that if we keep going in the same manner we do as a sinner, we will lose ourselves. This world is a trial and a test, trying to keep you in check for the next life.
And those who don’t keep themselves in check will lose that luminescence. They will become evanescent, in a twilight tending towards darkness, until they reach the eternal darkness. One must realize there are two paths…one that leads to light, and one that leads to darkness. And there are two twilights, both that exist in this world, the one of dawn, and the one of dusk. So be the one of dawn, so you may be saved from the everlasting torment of the Hell-fire and be freed into the light of the Paradise.
Remember both, constantly. Fear the punishment, and expect the reward. But you have to be a believer by doing this.
"The difference between the believer and the disbeliever is Salah (Prayer). Whoever abandons this Salah (Prayer) abandons his religion and becomes a disbeliever." -Prophet Muhammad (SWS)
In order to become luminescent, one must travel down the road of dawn. And in order to travel down that road, one must pray five times a day, fast during Ramadan, give charity, go to a pilgrimage at least once during their life, and have faith. These are the five pillars of Islam.
“Cleanliness is half of faith. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale. SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fill up what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is a light. Charity is proof (of one’s faith). Endurance is a brightness and the Qur‘an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.” –Prophet Muhammad (SWS)
Be luminescent. Give charity, pray, and enjoin good and forbid evil. Indeed, by fearing and loving and hoping and trusting in Allah, you will go to Heaven.
"But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge." (Qu’ran 79:40-41)
