That is the true purpose of this religion. To reach the excellent, never-ending life after this transient one. To validate what I've said, here are some authentic recordings of the final messenger (peace be upon him) of God, or Allah, according to Islam:
Abu Ishaq reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The best thing a believing man can be given is good character, and the worst thing a man can be given is an evil heart with a beautiful appearance.”
Source: Musnaf Ibn Abi Shayba 24747
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to As-Suyuti
Another important factor to consider is what we feel inside our hearts whether good or bad. If we do something "good" for instance, but have bad intention, the good is futile. Something as far as giving charity for the sake of showing it, while it doesn't make you lose much at all, is futile. If you are a scholar and teach knowledge for the sake of gaining reputation, it is a form of hypocrisy. Simultaneously, if you end up lying about something for the sake of helping someone get out of a problem, to avoid a greater evil, it is regarded as good, since your intention, was in fact pure.
The final Messenger of Allah (which is God's name in Arabic) said:
"Deeds are judged according to the intention."
No matter how great your actions may seem, if it is not a reflection of what is within, it will not avail you in goodness. This brings me to the final topic. Hypocrisy.
In the Qu'ran, it mentions how the hypocrites have veils over their hearts. In this way, they are dumb, deaf and blind. A verse reads:
"And when you recite the Qur'an, We put an invisible veil between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter."}
[Qur'an al-Isra' 17; 45]
Again, it is said in this verse:
“Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing. There is a veil over their eyes. There is a great punishment for them.” (Al-Baqara/ The Cow 2/7)
Whenever the Qu'ran is read to these people, they seem to become numb in understanding and refuse to heed the warnings and truth. They become hypocritical, believing it at one moment, then turning from the signs the next. And no one can change that state of heart except Allah; but you have to call to Him.
To conclude, I will finish off with this verse of the Noble Qu'ran:
"But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge."
(79:40-41)
If you know what's best for your soul, then I urge you to listen to the message.
May we be granted good lives in this world and the next.
